The stage is set for the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals at Kvitfjell and Hafjell to be a barn burner for the women’s overall Crystal Globe! <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mikaela secured her 109th World Cup victory on Sunday in \u00c5re, Sweden, beating by nearly a second her toughest rival Emma Aicher who enjoyed her best slalom result ever in front of her family and friends.

From first win to history: Shiffrin and \u00c5re<\/strong>
\u00c5re is a place near and dear to Mikaela’s heart. It’s where she won her first World Cup back in December 2012. It’s also where she had her first significant injury a few years later. It’s where she was crowned Super-G World Champion in 2019, and then won the slalom at the same FIS medal-event despite being very sick.

It’s also where she matched the great Swedish legend Ingemar Stenmark’best mark of 86 World Cup victories on March 10, 2023, and where she surpassed his record the following day, with 87 World Cup victories. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s simply magical. 

And, Mikaela’s slalom skiing really is magical. Unmatched. She’s truly one of a kind. Among the greatest athletes of all time. Mikaela has been on the top of her game for her entire World Cup career.

One of one<\/strong>
She has won eight of nine World Cup slalom races this season as during the season 2018\/19 when she celebrated a total of 17 triumphs during that incredible winter. Only Croatia’s Skiing star Janica Kostelic managed it in 2001!

Mikaela is now leading the overall race by 140 points over Emma Aicher. She plans to ski Super-G at Kvitfjell and giant slalom, and slalom at Hafjell to clinch her sixth big globe as Austria’s Annemarie Moser Proell in the 1970s.

She is aiming for big points to stay ahead of the only remaining four-event skier on the women’s World Cup, Emma Aicher who will all four remaining races.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall Standings <\/strong>
Following Sunday’s slalom race, Mikaela leads the overall standings, with 1286 points, followed by Germany’s Emma Aicher with 1,146 points, and Switzerland’s Camille Rast with 989 points.

On Saturday, Mikaela was 5th in the giant slalom race dominated by Austria\u2019s Julia Scheib who captured the GS globe with five wins this season.

Shiffrin earned extremely valuable points in the tight race for the overall Crystal Globe. With bib 6, Mikaela had a hefty lead in the middle of the first run, ahead by more than half a second heading into the final few gates of the course, when she threw her skis sideways and nearly stopped. She kept it going through the finish line and crossed the finish line 2.29 seconds back. Even so, she was in 12th after the first run, and laid down another run of beautiful skiing, allowing her to move up to fifth place and grab 45 points toward the overall. 

Germany’s all-rounder Emma Aicher achieved a season-best fourth place in that race \u2014impressive, given she had not finished better than 10th place in the discipline this year prior to Are. Emma’s strong result allowed her to close the gap slightly to Mikaela in the race for the overall title. Camille Rast’s DNF means Mikaela gained a significant lead over Rast, who is in third place in the overall standings.
